   index of protection (IP Rating)

The IP rating system provides a means of determining the degree of protection against dust, water and
        impact afforded by electrical equipment
and enclosures.
The system is recognised in most European countries (IEC529,  BS EN 60529: 1992)
Details are also given for a third figure which, while not specified in many British Standards, it is used in
        most corresponding international standards.
