Economic Area must be in possession of a work permit
to allow them to take up employment in the UK.

Community law grants EEA (European Economic Area) nationals a right to live and
work in the UK, this is called a right
of residence.

Nationals
from the following countries do not need a work permit
to take up employment in the UK:

From the 1st May 2004, nationals from New EU Member States
will be free to come to the UK.
Nationals from the following new member states;
Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Poland, Latvia,
Lithuania, Slovakia and Slovenia who find a
job in the UK are required to
register with the Home Office under the new "Worker
Registration Scheme" as soon as they find work.
Nationals from Malta and Cyprus have full free
movement rights and do not require a
workers registration certificate.
